The Junior end of the school take part in weekly swimming lessons for a block of approximately 7 weeks in Graiguecullen swimming pool in early Spring every year.
Discover Primary Science and Maths
For the last 7 years the whole school has successfully participated in the DPSM awards. The award incorporates science, technology, engineering and maths. This included taking part in Maths week, Science week and Engineering week. The boys often showcase their science experiments to parents and students.
Coaching in hurling and football takes place for the whole school throughout the school year. There is a fun blitz organized for the end of the year in the McGrath Park. Senior classes also take part in the Cumann na mBunscoil hurling and football school leagues. Sixth class also enjoy the indoor hurling league championship in the winter months.
The whole school takes part in the music generation programme for the full year. Second, Third and Fourth class learn the recorder while Fifth and Sixth take part in choir lessons. A Christmas showcase for all classes is much anticipated!
Our school has always been a very strong contender and participant in the Credit Union quizzes for a great many years. We have had many success stories in this field. We also run our own inter – class quizzes towards the end of the school year.
St Brigid’s school has participated in The Green Schools programme for over 12 years. We have been awarded 5 flags to date. We are very proud to have secured our litter, energy, water, travel and biodiversity flag.
Tag rugby coaches from Carlow Rugby Club provide coaching to the 5th and 6th classes in the autumn. This is very popular as it is non- contact, inclusive and fun for all!
