The school will close on Thursday 30th June at 12 o’clock for the summer holidays. The school will re-open on Thursday 1st September at 9 o’ clock.
The end of year School Mass took place on Tues 28th in St. Andrew’s. Thanks to Mrs. Felix for all her hard work and effort and well done to her group of musicians for their fantastic music at the Mass. Thanks to all those who took part in the Mass: readers, altar servers, singers and offertory gifts. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thanks to the Parents Council for providing ice-cream afterwards!
It’s that time of year when we say goodbye to our 6th class. They were a pleasure to have in the school and a credit to their families. We wish them well in secondary school. The boys received their Confirmation on 2nd of April.
Preschool A.S.D. Classes: We had a fantastic last term in the preschool this year. We went to The Big Blue Barn on our school tour and it proved a great success. We have also visited our local park throughout the year. We would also like to sincerely thank those who donated toys and resources to the preschool this year. They have been put to great use! We are sad to say goodbye to 7 of our pre-schoolers who are leaving to go to other schools in September. We wish all the best to Jacob, Niamh B, Patrick, Alfie, Paddy, Logan and Niamh C. in their new schools.
Congratulations to the 2nd class boys on receiving their First Holy Communion on May 14th. Many thanks to their teacher Mrs Keogh and the parents who helped to prepare them for their special day.
Well done to all classes who participated in the Primary Science and Maths Award. Our school received a plaque for all the effort that the boys put in during the year. A special word of thanks to Mrs Keogh for collecting the information and applying for the award.
The boys in 2nd, 3rd and 4th Class recently took part in a Biodiversity Workshops with Edel Heeran. The boys completed a habitat map of the school grounds cataloguing the wildlife in the local environment.
Congratulations to the boys from 5th and 6th Class who won The Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Division 1 Hurling final beating Gaelscoil Ceatharlach. The match took place in Mc Grath Park on Wednesday 15th June where they were well supported by friends and family. Thanks to Sean Hanafin for looking after the team. Well done to school football team who played well in their matches but unfortunately didn’t make it to the finals.
As part of the Heritage in Schools initiative we invited Beth Murphy an Arts facilitator to St. Brigid’s to share her knowledge of one of our most ancient crafts- willow weaving. The boys in 5th and 6th had an opportunity to create a fish using the weaving techniques. Beth spoke to the classes about how creating biodiversity and sustainability are two essential parts of our responsibility here on earth.
We were delighted to take part in Creative Schools Week which ran from 9th – 13th May 2022. As part of the celebration we invited Konor Halpin to the school to provide Circus Skills workshops to all the pupils. The children had an opportunity to engage with multiple new skills including plate spinning, juggling and much much more. Many thanks to the Parents Council for funding this creative experience for the school.
4th, 5th and 6th Class enjoyed the Spar 5 a side soccer competition in Bagenalstown Soccer Club on Tuesday 5th of April. The boys had a brilliant day showing off their soccer skills. Thanks to Suzanne Bolger from the local Spar in Bagenalstown for their support. Thanks to Ms Doyle for organising the teams and the matches.
St. Brigid’s NS has been granted DEIS urban 2 status by the Department of Education. This provides additional support and funding to the school to help in the areas of literacy, numeracy and attendance. Tommy Cox has been appointed as Home School Community Liasion Officer shared between Queen of the Universe and St. Brigid’s NS.
Breakfast Club: This initiative will commence again in September with every pupil receiving something as a snack. It has been very successful since it started.
Many thanks to the Parents Council and the Board of Management of the school for all their support and hard work in helping with the smooth running of the school. Their efforts are very much appreciated by the staff and pupils of St. Brigid’s.
