The school will close on Friday 20th June at 12 o’clock for the summer holidays.  The school will re-open on Wednesday 27th August at 9am.

The end of year School Mass took place on Tuesday 17th June in St.  Andrew’s Church.  Thanks to Mrs. Felix for all her hard work and effort and well done to her group of musicians for their fantastic music at the Mass. We would like to acknowledge Mrs. Felix’s contribution to the school as she retires in October. For nearly two decades, Mrs. Felix has been part of St. Brigid’s, first  as a classroom teacher and then as a support teacher and also working with our Preschool class. Over this time, Mrs Felix has shared her extraordinary gift of music with all of us in St. Brigid’s. As Mrs Felix moves into the next chapter of her life, we want to express our gratitude for everything she’s done.

It’s also that time of year when we say goodbye to our 6th class.  A graduation ceremony was held on Wednesday 11th June. They were a pleasure to have in the school and a credit to their families. They’ve become role models for the younger classes, shown great spirit on the sports field, enthusiasm in the classroom, creativity in their projects, and strong character in how they’ve looked out for each other. We’d like to wish them all the best as they move on to secondary school.

Preschool A.S.D. Classes: The children have had a fantastic last term in the preschool this year. They went to the playground in Paulstown for their school tour and they had great fun in the hall during Bike Day. We would also like to sincerely thank those who donated toys and resources to the preschool this year. They have been put to great use! A special thanks to the Bagenalstown Community Choir for their generous donation to the Preschool recently. We are sad to say goodbye to 6 of our pre-schoolers who are leaving in June. We wish all the best to Thomas, Tyr, Nayra, Cillian, Keegan, Ben in their new schools.

School Activities in this term:

The Curse of Count Vlas’ Radio Play: Muine Bheag Arts led a series of workshops with 6th Class to develop a radio play called ‘The Curse of Count Vlas’ as part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2025. All of the students in 6th Class immersed themselves in the workshops to create a brilliant radio play where students were involved in writing, acting, recording, drawing, creating foley sounds, and playing instruments. Thanks to their teacher Mrs. Cahill for all her work behind the scenes. You can listen to it on https://muinebheagarts.com/Radio

Well done to the boys on winning the Division 1 Final of the Cuman na mBunscol School’s Hurling competition and on winning the Glór Ceatharlach football competition. Thanks to their coaches: Mrs. Cahill, Mrs. Whelan and Mrs Carrigan. Also, well done to Dylan Kelly, Darragh Hughes, Reece Power and Hugh O’Brien on representing the school in the ‘Lift n Strike’ schools competition.

The Music Generation was a great success again this year. All classes held a concert for the school playing pieces on their recorders accompanied by their teacher Bill on his saxophone, and the boys doing after-school classes in saxophone and clarinet also performed.  Well done to all.

Congratulations to the 2nd class boys on receiving their First Holy Communion on May 10th. Many thanks to their teacher Mrs. Keogh, Mary, Susan and the parents who helped to prepare them for their special day.

Gardening with Shirley Lee: Different groups from each class were involved in gardening activities this term: planting potatoes, carrots, spring onions, radishes and lettuce. It was a great experience for the boys to see the journey from “farm to fork”

Well done to all classes who participated in the ‘SFI Curious Minds Gold Award’. Our school received a plaque for all the effort that the boys put in during the year.  This is the tenth year in a row our school has been given this award. A special word of thanks to Mrs. Keogh.

Green School: Congratulations to all the school community on being awarded our 6th Green Flag for Global Citizenship and Waste. A special word of thanks to the Mrs Carrigan and the Green School Commitee for organizing different initiatives within the school such as Battery recycling, Litter picking rotas, Green Boot Award, Christmas jumper Swop, visits to the Powerstown Recycling Centre.

Edwina Grace from KCLR spoke to the members of the Green school commitee and the Debating team recently as part of an upcoming series on KCLR called “Ours to Protect 2” which has a particular focus on children and young people and their contribution to the national debate on climate change and climate action.

Nationwide visited our school on Monday 16th June to film the boys from 3rd and 5th Class making pom poms as part of the programme they’re doing on the amazing yarnbombing all around Bagenalstown. The students made pom pom aliums and created a display in the front garden of the school. Well done to their teachers: Mrs Carrigan and Ms Delaney, Cáit and Carol who were involved in the process.

Many thanks to the Student Council for organising the inflatables in the field this week. They raised the funds for this by having bun sales which students in each class provided. I think it’s safe to say the boys had a brilliant time.

Once again, we held a ‘Bike Day’ this week which was a great success.  Many thanks to all who made an effort to bring in their bikes and helmets. A special word of thanks to Jason Clarke for providing extra bikes and helmets so everyone could participate in the activities.
