As part of the Heritage in Schools initiative we recently invited Beth Murphy an Arts facilitator to St. Brigid’s to share her knowledge of one of our most ancient crafts- willow weaving.
Beth’s visit to our school was enjoyable from beginning to end. Fifth and Sixth class were actively engaged throughout the day and learned a lot about willow and how to work with it. She also brought samples of her work with her both decorative and functional. All of the boys had an opportunity to create a fish using the weaving techniques. Beth spoke to the classes about how creating biodiversity and sustainability are two essential parts of our responsibility here on earth.
